Family Visit ❤️

Family & Friends

My family came to watch my show with Dance of Asian America last weekend! My med school classmate Dotty also came, though we didn’t manage to snap a photo. I’m glad that they were able to come, even though it was a 4 hour drive.

I unfortunately didn’t have a lot of time to hang out with them, given that we had rehearsals the entire day Saturday and needed to teach on Sunday morning. We were able to go to one of my favorite restaurants for lunch (Mala Sichuan Bistro) and had some really delicious food. Despite the brief time together, I really appreciated that they could come.

My relationship with my family continues to be complex. As I grow older I feel sadder that I don’t get to see them as often, compounded by the fact that I was never super close with them to begin with. That’s what happens in Asian families where closeness is not expressed quite as vulnerably, I suppose. I want to have a closer relationship with them, but at this point, I’m not quite sure how to cultivate that 😢
